Fighter in the Wind (Korean: 바람의 파이터) is a 2004 South Korean film. It is based on the Japanese comic book Karate Baka Ichidai which is a fictionalized account of karate competitor Choi Yeung-Eui (최영의) who went to Japan after World War II to become a fighter pilot but found a very different path instead. He changed his name to Masutatsu Oyama (大山倍達) and went across the country, defeating martial artists one after another. This film concentrates on the period when he is still young, and developing his famous karate style, Kyokushin.

Judo was the first Japanese martial art to gain widespread international recognition, and the first to become an official Olympic sport. Pedagogical innovations attributed to Kanō include the use of black and white belts, and the introduction of dan ranking to show the relative ranking between members of a martial art style. Well-known mottoes attributed to Kanō include "Maximum Efficiency with Minimum Effort" and "Mutual Welfare and Benefit."

In 1955, Kimura, at 38 years old, and 80lbs heavier than Helio, he participated in a match in which he defeated Hélio Gracie of the famous Gracie Jiu Jitsu family in a submission judo match held in Brazil. During the fight, Kimura threw Gracie repeatedly with Ippon Seoinage (one arm shoulder throw), Osoto Gari (major outer reap) *Kimura's signature throw. He threw Helio 3 times with Osoto Gari.*, Ouchi Gari (major inner reap), Uchimata (inner thigh throw), and Harai Goshi (sweeping hip throw). Kimura reportedly threw Gracie repeatedly in an effort to knock him unconscious.

However, Helio proved to be tougher than he looked and Kimura was not able to knock him out. Kimura tried to summit Gracie by using grappling techniques such as kuzure-kamishiho-gatame (modified upper four corner hold), kesa-gatame (scarf hold), and sankaku-jime (triangle choke). Finally, thirteen minutes into the bout, Kimura positioned himself to apply a reverse ude-garami (arm entanglement, a shoulderlock). Gracie refused to submit, but loss the match. Many claim that if Kimura was in the same weight class as Helio, Helio would have won. At the end of the match, Kimura was so impressed by Helios technique that he invited Helio to teach at the Imperial Academy of Japan.

He had a tremendous love for judo and would often wake up the uchideshi (the live-in students) in the middle of the night to practice a new technique. He had an enormous feeling of gratitude for the opportunity to train. His gratitude included every aspect of life. He even expressed thanks for his small stature (5 feet 4 inches and 110 pounds) that made him fast and difficult to throw and for injuries that forced him to explore aspects of his training he might otherwise have missed.

Mifune had great kindness toward his students and a sincere interest in their well being and progress in the art.
